Our mission is to achieve sustainable net-zero carbon across Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by improving operational efficiency, reducing reliance on thermogenic input sources, and increasing the circularity of biogenic systems through the return of atmospheric carbon to soils and plant biomass.
We aim to deliver this alongside wider sustainability objectives, including economic viability and biodiversity enhancement, and to achieve it by integrating academic insight into the strategic direction and management of the farm.
The impact of climate change is already being seen on farms across the United Kingdom. Extreme weather events are expected to continue, with severe droughts and torrential flooding becoming more common. Any steps we can take as a farm to mitigate climate change will benefit the local community and wider agricultural industry.
Working alongside industry to form strategic alliances, the Harper Adams Future Farm aims to lead the way, ensuring the industry can learn from our achievements and mistakes. We will work with the School of Sustainable Food and Farming to publicise our journey to sustainable net zero.
